It was my wife’s birthday on Sunday and she decided she would like to go and have a look at the Kielder observatory building. While this may not be everyones idea of a fun time, it was a really nice walk out. As it was freezing there was absolutely no one else around, which suited me down to the ground.
Kielder Observatory is located in Kielder Forest Northumberland. Most areas in Northumberland and the Scottish Borders are sparsely populated compared to the rest of the UK, consequently light pollution is very low and our skies are very dark. Kielder is the sweet spot in the area, offing up awe-inspiring views of the milky Way which were once seen all across Britain.
This uniquely designed structure offers everyone the chance to stare into universal history and learn both our insignificance and wonder. My wife and I both hope to attend a viewing event soon.
